A Men's Leaguer describes the inner workings of the club and its principles.
By Carlos Baltazar
Do you ever wonder what Men’s League is really about? Do you ever stop and stare, wondering why they wear their uniforms? Why are all these men going to room 101 every Tuesday at lunch? Well this article will provide you with answers to these questions, and to many more thoughts that you may have about Men’s League.
Men’s League became a club about ten or so years ago. It was created by none other than Mr. Engel. He has been the adviser for Men’s League since the beginning, and also has taken over many other clubs such as Cheer and ASB. Men’s League in itself is a community service based club. This means that most of its time is devoted to volunteering and helping out in the community. We do services near and far. Any job and task, we are always there and always diligent in our duty. At any service, Men's League proudly represents our school Bolsa Grande.
This is what Men’s League is about: helping out those in need, always putting others in front of us.
Another part of Men’s League that many of you may not know about is that Men’s League is a brotherhood. We are all like brothers in this organization. We start together and end together. This is how Men’s League is run. We just don't see each other one day and ignore the rest. We are all friends, brothers, and we are all united under these principles. You can see at our school that many Men’s Leaguers hang out with each other. This shows how strong the camaraderie is in Men’s League. We do not choose our social lives over Men’s League--we incorporate them.
As many of you may wonder: why do these men wear uniform every week? This does not only serve as our club uniform, but it helps succeed in real life situations. This helps us for the future, another key point that Men’s League provides. It gives us an opportunity to see what a real job may feel like. It prepares us for the real world. Having our uniforms checked every week keeps us reminded that in the real world it is just as tough. This also provides us with leadership skills that we need for our jobs in the future. Men’s League does a great job in providing many opportunities for an individual to climb up and show how he can be a leader. A leader is not born, he is made. This is what Men’s League provides for us. A first lesson in leadership that we will need for the future.
Lastly, Men’s League isn't for everyone. It is for those who are committed to an activity, those that want to discover and meet someone new, those who want an experience they have never had before. If you are interested, don't be afraid to come to me and ask questions--I'll be more than happy to help. After all, I am a three year member in Men’s League. This is what Men’s League is about and this is what we do. We are not just well dressed men, but far more than that.
