Psychology: A senior's perspective of the class that will blow your mind (not literally).
By An Nguyen
Attention all students (except for seniors of Bolsa Grande High School)! If you're looking for a fun, educational, and challenging class to join, then AP Psychology is the course for you!
To start off, this class has one of the best teachers on campus, Mr. Stanley. He is an extremely easy to talk to person who keeps the class interesting and fun with his stories. He has activities that can be done in groups or individually that range from singing to acting to rapping to even writing haikus to (spoiler alert) staring at the sky randomly during passing period.
There is never a moment of boredom in his classroom. Mr. Stanley also has a very eccentric yet compassionate personality as he cheers for the heavens as the people on the announcements say the word "mandatory" on the school announcements and as he listens and gives advice to students about their personal problems. Although he is easygoing, he is also serious about teaching his students every single day. He has a routine lecture schedule that will not be altered by anything, and his tests do not wait for the announcements as well.
Continuing on, AP Psychology is also a great course because of the material that is covered and the things you can apply to your own life. The material starts by teaching you an interesting technique to condition your friends to do things like salivate at the ring of a bell. It then continues on to the different types of psychology and its origins. More interestingly, it covers why we do the things we do, such as engaging in relationships, or getting hungry during fourth period.
The course also covers interesting things like psychological disorders, and some useful tips to help friends in need that are suffering from things like anorexia and severe depression. The class also surprisingly includes some information about biology, health, and drugs. Last but not least, the class ends with Stanley covering dating tips right before prom. So this class can be very useful for people who need the extra boost in getting a date to the last dance before the year ends.
Personally, this class is one of the best classes I've taken in my four years here at Bolsa. It has everything, a teacher who keeps the class interested, who is fun but serious, and who is genuinely concerned about your education. This is a class on which you can not miss out.
