Mrs. Turner: "AP Biology is wonderful. It is fun, informative, and a happy place to be."

As you read this sentence, millions of cells are working together, signaling each other to process these words. As your mind processes these sentences, a tree is releasing the oxygen we breathe. In the time that you finally got to this sentence, you've used up thousands of moles of ATP (your energy) to either keep reading these sentences or hover your mouse over the back button to look for something else to read. Everything is related to the things students can learn in AP Biology. For those with the curiosity and the perseverance to work, AP Biology is the one for you!
AP Biology covers a variety of topics, from cell structure and function to the process of evolution. With teachings based on four "Big Ideas," AP Biology offers insight on life processes, ecological issues, and most importantly how we all came to be. We learn about the things we see, and the underlying surface of how everything works. With this class, you learn more than just photosynthesis and evolution, but the role that we humans play in this world.
The class is more than just reading, but doing. We do labs throughout the year to demonstrate biological concepts, using chemicals like hydrogen peroxide to common store-bought products like M&M's. The labs not only show science in the making, but also provide the experience of a biologist at work itself by working with other classmates.
As challenging as the class may be, there are many kinds of assistance given throughout the year. Mrs. Turner offers study sessions and often opens her classroom after school for any questions. There are study guides offered by the school that go along with the textbook. And, of course, you have your classmates for help. Procrastination is not the greatest help for this class though (or any class, really). Like the science lab, AP Biology is a class in which you have to communicate with one another to get the most accurate results (in this case, the retention of the knowledge).
But what makes AP Biology great overall is probably the teacher, Mrs. Turner. As the only teacher teaching AP Biology, Mrs. Turner has a goofy personality and a strong devotion to teaching that is unlike any other. From my experience, she cares about her students and takes them under her wing from the very start until they are ready to face the dreaded AP Test in May.
From the words of Mrs. Turner, "AP Biology is wonderful. It is fun, informative, and a happy place to be. I love biology and I enjoy teaching every aspect of the course. I get to teach what I absolutely love….BIOLOGY, LIFE."
From personal experience, this class is more than just cell processes or unpronounceable words (because there are a lot of those); this class is about us. We learn what goes on inside of us, from the proteins in our cells to the reactions to the things around us, and the effect we have on the environment around us. In this class, we learn about the science behind everything we do, and how our actions do have a reaction. It's what makes this class interesting; it's a subject that connects with all the other subjects.
To potential students, Mrs. Turner says, "Students should expect a great year. They will learn a wonder topic, Biology, do great labs, and have a year to remember. They will be challenged but I will be there to help them along the way. They will never be without assistance. It is a topic that you learn with friends--not by yourself."
